Dawn's Blog

It’s been a month of CrossFit workouts and I’m confident that my body is falling apart. No, seriously. I’m pretty sure that there are body parts on me that are hurting that I never even knew could hurt or emanate pain.

Before starting my workouts my body hurt from carrying around extra weight, poor eating habits, and unhealthy sleep patterns; now my body hurts from intense training, pushing myself harder, and my own stubbornness. While this may sound like complaining (and perhaps it is ... slightly) it’s a good hurt. I remember being sore after the first couple of months during the start of a sports season. The pain was nagging, annoying even but it reminded me that I had worked hard during those sessions that I was actually bettering my body; improving. These nagging, and sometimes painful aches remind me that I’m doing something to better myself. These aches remind me that I have worked hard, and pushed myself out of my comfort zone.

Looking back at the past month I have seen myself grow, I don’t see crazy, “oh my god” differences, but I see differences none the less. I am now seeing that I am getting better at rowing, that squats do indeed tighten up your bum, the feeling at the end of a workout is more prideful rather than that of feeling like death, and that I still hate burpees with a passion (I’m not sure that is ever going to change, I’m looking at you Moonshine). I haven’t lost an excessive amount of weight yet, (YET) but there are muscles starting to form in my arms and my legs have started to slim down. I’m confident that this journey is going to change me both mentally and physically. Old me would have given up by now because the weight loss part hasn’t happened. Old me would have given up after my back started to ache. I would have made excuses, taken the easy way out, but that’s not the new me. That’s not going to happen this time. Watch me. I’m going to succeed, I’m going to lose weight, gain muscle, and become the healthiest me, I’ve ever been.
