Intensity and Fuel Improve Your Fitness

If you are going to invest your time and money to fitness, you want to make sure you are getting the best return on your investment. There are two major holes that I see in most peoples training that hinders them from attaining results.

The first thing most people are missing is intensity, the second is their fueling/nutrition. These two things are the most vital and obvious tools to improve your training, yet they are the hardest things to do.

Intensity is not a comfortable experience, so many people try to avoid it. We like to travel the path of least resistance, and we like to stay in our comfort zones. The problem is when we stay comfortable, not much changes. When people challenge themselves, and get outside their comfort zone, that is when we see huge transformations, both inside and outside of the gym. When training, it ultimately comes down to how hard you are willing to work, and your results will be based off that. Having a trainer there everyday to help make sure you are pushing yourself while staying safe, is the best way to insure you are reaching your potential as quickly and safely as possible.

Nutrition has been clouded with over complicated “studies” and fad diets, that just confuse what is actually very simple. There has been a huge increase in processed foods, sugars, and other harmful “edible” food-like products found at fast food restaurants or in the grocery store. Step one would be to eliminate those products by eating only meats, vegetables, nuts and seeds, a small amount of fruits, very little starches, and no sugar.

Step two would be to limit your intake to quantities that support your exercise but not body fat. You can use apps like myfitnesspal or other calorie counting devices to measure where you are at, then make adjustments from there. The key is to get a baseline measurement, then make reasonable adjustments based off of actual numbers rather then shooting in the dark and playing a guessing game.

Step three would be to get high quality ingredients like grass fed meats, and produce that hasn’t been genetically modified and grown without pesticides. Cycle your meats, eat different veggies, and use oils low in Omega 6s like coconut and avocado, while staying away from vegetable oils. This will help your body function on a cellular level, and reduce toxins and inflammation.

All of this is extremely simple and attainable, all it takes is willpower, dedication, preparation, and consistency. Having support from a trainer or being part of a community that is focused on fitness is a huge benefit. They make the process much more effective and enjoyable, but anyone can do it with enough perseverance! Eric Fasciani

Eric Fasciani started his fitness career as a personal trainer in 2006. He quickly found a passion for fitness that was focused on building healthier, more capable bodies. This clashed with the body building/physique focused approach that was prevalent at the gyms he worked out of. When he attended the CrossFit® Level 1 Certification, he realized he had come across something special and instantly knew he wanted to open a CrossFit location. CrossFit has been the biggest influence on Eric and his approach to fitness. “I love that the focus is on health, wellness, and performance, rather then looks. You can have someone that looks ripped with abs and biceps but aren’t fit or healthy. But when you train CrossFit, you get people who are healthy, and capable of amazing things, and the side effects are that you look great.”

After 5 years of running CrossFit gyms, Eric wanted to add more functionality/application to fitness training, and began to explore MovNat (an outdoor highly functional parkour type of training). He got certified in Level 1 and 2 MovNat, and has used knowledge gained from them to create “Primal Fitness” – A group fitness class that focuses on moving your body to it’s maximum capability, followed by high intensity metabolic conditioning.

What has motivated Eric more than anything else in his career is the belief that fitness carries over to all aspects of life. Perseverance, integrity, dedications, sacrifice, self-control, honesty, and commitment are all best and easiest learned through fitness.
