What's motivating me? Tank tops and zombies...

“Think about what is motivating you, why you are doing this…” This was the prompt most people offered when I mentioned that I didn’t know where to start with this blog. That didn’t make it any easier. Right now, what isn’t motivating me? I am 35 and far too unhealthy for my age. I want to be healthy. I want to be strong. I don’t want to be tired. I don’t want to be sick. I want to be able to open a jar. I want to be able to run from zombies. I want to bring healthy habits home, to my husband of seven years (hi Bill!), and our black Lab (hi Rudy!).

Taking back my life

Tired, in pain and very moody is how I have been living my life. Justifying all my actions in my own mind is how I got into this situation. My back hurt, can’t go to the gym, my knee hurts, can’t go the gym. I am stressed out so I need to eat in order to feel better. I didn’t care how I looked nor did I care how I felt. It was all justified in my head as getting older and it is what it is. It was always one excuse after another. I masked everything with my humor, the pain, depression, anxiety as well as the shortcomings I had in my life.

"You'll become addicted!” they said. "You'll want to go every day." they said ​While in my head I’m thinking, "No way. Addicted to pain, sweat, and gasping for air? Doubtful." Well.. I was wrong. I'm hooked. It's week two, and I wish I could go every day.

New Day. New Me.

I’ve never really thought about trying CrossFit. I’m 32, married, have a 5 year old son, and a full-time job. I’m content and happy. If I’m not at work I’m off doing one thing or another with family and friends, being pulled this way and that. I never thought that I would have the time to commit to such a rigorous workout; on top of that I never thought that I was in shape enough to even start. To me CrossFit was for super athletes, people who were already incredibly fit, and had already developed awesome eating habits.
